The HELIALU Family Expands with Super Positive Polished Rake Inserts for Machining Aluminum and Non-Ferrous Materials
Highlights
ISCAR expands the HELIALU Inserts Line by adding a new
sub-micron grade which assures higher productivity
for 90˚ aluminum and non-ferrous milling (ISO N).
Metal cutting technology has progressed over the past few years. The results shows precise,
safe and stable machinery capable of perfroming highly complicated operations with increased
feed rates.
The results provide ISCAR’s customers with the ability to choose tougher and harder grades.
Machining aluminum with a hard-wear resistance sub-micron carbide grade IC08 maintains the
insert’s cutting edge sharpness for longer periods of time. This contributes greatly to stable
machining and longer tool life, which enables milling aluminum at very fast feed rates,
and milling aluminum-lithium alloys.
The BUE phenomenon has a negative effect when machining aluminum.
Low feed rates - creates negative land on the cutting edge
High feed rates - reduces BUE

Super Positive Inserts with a Polished Rake for Machining Aluminum at High Rotation Speed
• When machining at very high cutting speed and replacing the insert, it is also recommended to replace the screw
(1) Tool's pocket should be modified by rounding its corners to R=2.5 mm
(2) Measured on the cutter

Safety Recommendations
• Insert pocket should be thoroughly cleaned prior to clamping the insert.
• Screw clamping torque as recommended in ISCAR’s catalog data.
• Replace the screw after each insert change.
• Running the tools beyond maximum recommended R.P.M. values may cause
insert breakage, machine damage and bodily injury.
• As the HELIALU inserts have sharp cutting edges, always wear protective gloves
to avoid injury when handling.
